Goodbye wonderful summer!

As the temperature continues to fall and we settle into the Autumn season, I like to sit back and reminisce about the beautiful summer that has just gone by. Here in England I think most would agree that we have had a gorgeous summer that lasted surprisingly long and been fairly consistent. After what seemed to be the longest winter and bout of torrid weather with even snow in late March; a fine summer was well deserved!
Personally I had a great summer and it was particularly special for me because I finished my undergraduate degree at University and graduated! Soon after I enjoyed what was truly a remarkable holiday with my family as we travelled through California, Nevada and Arizona and visited so many places. It was definitely the best trip I have ever been on!
So here’s my summer highlights with a few beauty snippets thrown in (next post) with what I had in my beauty bag etc!

I started off the summer in pretty exciting fashion by seeing the amazing RiRi at Twickenham Stadium! She was incredible!!

Finding my graduation dress was tough!! It’s a smart occasion so you want to look professional and tidy. I opted for a dress that I thought was so pretty and comfortable, and it was also smart and a decent length. The material made it wear really nicely too. I definitely wanted to wear a dress, not a suit or trousers! Heel size is also so important. Knowing me, I would be the one to trip up and land on my face, so I wanted heels, but not too high. I also got comfy ones because it was SO hot the day I graduated, so I wanted to be able to walk in them without slipping!
Dress – Monsoon
Slingback shoes – Marks and Spencer – Similar here (But mine were patent and without the embellishment on them)- With all the shoes available to us, you forget how perfectly comfy and well fit M&S shoes are!

It’s definitely an honour to graduate, and have my family there beside me! I was at the University of Surrey for 3 years, and did a year out on placement in Barcelona, and I can safely say it was the best experience of my life! It was also tough, and at times very stressful, but I came out of University with some of the best friends, the best memories and a fantastic life experience. The University of Surrey was honestly an amazing place to study, I couldn’t be happier that I went there! Wonderful things happen at Surrey as they say!

Graduation Ball!

My Graduation Ball was fantastic!! It was the best way to sum up the last four years with all the special people I have met along the way! Surrey Grad Ball starts at 6pm and ends at 6am the next morning, and consists of a fun fair to start the night with all sorts of treats like rides, chocolate fountains, jägar bomb stands, bumper cars, the lot! The party then continues from 11pm until 6am in our students union for the ball! If you had the stamina to make it until 6am, you enjoyed a nice survivors breakfast fry-up! I made it to 6am which I was quite proud of! Waheey!

This was my Grad Ball outfit! I loved this dress because it was so comfy and YELLOW. I wanted a yellow dress so badly!
Dress – Topshop (unfortunately they don’t sell this one anymore, but here is a similar one)
Necklace – Topshopsimilar here
California road trip!
So next was my fantastic trip to the west coast of America with my family! This was one of those once in a lifetime kind of holidays in that we saw SO much in the two and half weeks we were out there and drove for miles in between each destination!
Here are my highlights 🙂
We first flew in to San Francisco. This was probably my favourite destination because of the amount of things we did there. There is literally so much to see, but don’t be fooled, it’s not as hot as you may think it is! Always take a jumper out with you in San Fran! We visited, the Golden Gate Bridge, Sau Salito, Muir Woods, Alcatraz, Twin peaks (in the first pic below), Lombard Street and much more. The roads are exactly how they are in movies as well! We were trying to think of all the movies set in San Fran, and of course all I could think of was Princess Diaries…
We then hired our van and drove for about 4 hours to Yosemite National Park. Hands down one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and the pictures speak for themselves.
Next was the drive of around 6 hours to Death Valley- the hottest point in America. It was actually very beautiful out there and was amazing to see how the conditions of the area had actually affected much of the landform.

After a day in Death Valley, we crossed the border into Nevada and hit LAS VEGAS!! Vegas was crazy, buzzing at all times and the hotels are fantastic!! There’s a lot to see and do there from watching a Vegas show to Gondola rides at the Venetian, and if you’re old enough you can hit the casino’s. I retired from the casino shortly after losing $40 in two minutes playing blackjack. I also stayed at the Bellagio which was one of the nicest hotels I have ever seen!!

On from Vegas was the 6 hour drive into Arizona to see the wonder of the world, The Grand Canyon; and it’s as breathtaking as it’s been described.
When we got there it was literally showering at 5 minute intervals, but it was absolutely beautiful because these rainbows were forming all around us.

Next was a short visit to Monument Valley, the place where many westerns are filmed, and maybe be remembered for that famous scene in the film Forest Gump. This was such an interesting site to see and it was so hot there! And it is on the road to monument valley where people stop and take that infamous photo in the middle of the long road.
So after this we started our 10 hour drive back into California to LOS ANGELES!! It really is the city of angels, and was exactly how I imagined LA to be from the countless films and episodes of 90210 I have seen!! I am currently saving for my dream house that I spotted in Beverly Hills… only another $15 million dollars to go!
That was our final destination before flying back home to London Heathrow and back to reality. I mentioned that we drove in between each place, and although some journeys were very long, it is definitely the best way to see everything, and because we drove we got to stop off at a few extra places that we hadn’t originally planned to such as Hoover Dam and San Diego. The californian sunsets and beautiful scenic routes were amazing to see. We also had some pretty awesome food along the way!
I love summer and the hot weather, however I always look forward to Autumn because I adore Autumn fashion, with knee high boots, classic knits and scarves not to mention the coats! But also this part of the year is FILLED with birthdays including mine in October so it’s always very exciting!
So this post has gotten awfully hench somehow, therefore my next post ‘What was in my holiday beauty bag?‘ will feature all the little beauty bits and bobs from my holiday, with some of my favourite buys of the summer.
