HOMEMADE : Eyelash Growth and Thickening Serum

IMG_3715eeeI absolutely love pretty much all essential and natural oils. I do a lot of research on the benefits of using natural products and that has led to me having a cupboard full of oils (yes..really). I was talking to a friend of mine recently about beauty blogs, natural beauty products and makeup, and we somehow ended up on the subject of eyelashes. She noticed that my eyelashes were long and thick and asked what mascara I was using… I wasn’t actually wearing any. I have to humbly admit, I am very lucky with my eyelashes; they are naturally very long, bold and thick, and they always have been.

My friend then started telling me that she used oil on her lashes to help them grow and become thicker, and of course, I was immediately interested! Another homemade beauty tip I hear! She asked if I knew that castor oil was good for lashes. To be honest this was the first I had heard of using castor oil on lashes but, I do know about the great benefits of the oil so it did not surprise me. When she told me she had noticed a big difference, I wanted to try it out!

In this homemade beauty product, I have used three different oils mixed together to see how well it works, so for this homemade recipe you will need:

–  100% pure castor oil
–  Aloe Vera oil (as natural as you can find or organic)
–  Pure and natural Vitamin E oil (I have used 14,000 I.U)
–  Empty bottle/ container- I have used one of those boots plastic travel bottles
–  Old mascara wand or clean disposable mascara wandsIMG_3731eeeThe method is very simple- to your bottle, mix together 1/4 part castor oil, 1/4 part aloe vera oil and 1/2 part vitamin E oil and shake to mix. At night before bed, remove ALL eye makeup thoroughly and cleanse the face and eye area. Using the mascara wand, gently dip it into the bottle and apply a few strokes to your eyelashes top and bottom (as you would with mascara). Leave this overnight and in the morning gently use warm water to wash the lashes. Simple! If you do not have mascara wands at hand, then you can gently use your fingertips to coat the lashes.

So why have I mixed these particular oils together?

Vitamin E Oil – I’ve talked before about the numerous benefits of this oil because it is one of my favourites. Vitamin E oil is incredibly moisturising and nourishing and will keep your lashes protected and healthy as well as encouraging them to grow.

Castor Oil – You may have heard of using castor oil in the kitchen- you are not wrong. It is a fatty vegetable oil that oozes Omega 6 fatty acids, Vitamin E and proteins. This oil will strengthen and thicken the lashes and encourage growth, and its smooth and silky consistency allows it to be easily absorbed by the hair shaft, locking in nutrients. The properties of castor oil nourish both the the hair and the follicle.

Aloe Vera Oil – This oil has great benefits in preventing hair loss and will nourish your lashes and make them grow quicker.

I am going to give this a try for a few weeks and let you know how I get on! Give it a go for thicker, healthier and longer natural lashes!

Love Nimisha
xoxo

I can testify that castor oil is really good for the lashes. I haven’t tried mixing it with any other oils though, I do like the sound of the concussion you have recommended and will try it 🙂

Howdy! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this site? I’m getting sick and tired of WordPress because I’ve had problems with hackers and I’m looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be fantastic if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

Hey! No problem at all! I’m not sure how much help I can be I’m afraid because my website is self-hosted and run through wordpress. I used to use blogger however when I went self-hosted, wordpress had more options in developing my site- blogger was great though, really simple to use. Hope that helps! x
