Adding Evening Primrose Oil To My Skincare Routine

I’m adding yet another essential oil to my list of amazing and inexpensive beauty hacks (not one has failed me yet), and that is Evening Primrose Oil. It’s one of those that I’ve been able to see the results so quickly and so I needed to share!

How I’m using it

You may know Evening Primrose Oil well as the vitamin supplement you can take. When ingested, they are great for hormonal balance and regulating many of the internal processes in your body. The oil has an active compound called phenylalanine which can aid headaches and general pain relief. It’s also been used to treat skin problems such as eczema and acne when ingested. Rich in Omega-6 oils it’s properties internally are endless.

I, however am not using it in the conventional way.

I’ve started to use the oils from the capsules topically. Bursting the capsules releases the oil, and this can be used on the skin or mixed with a base cream such as your eye cream, face mask, or moisturiser.

What are the benefits?

So aside from the benefits of taking the capsules orally, there is obviously some benefit to using the oil topically (on the skin). Evening Primrose Oil is a known and common ingredient in many many anti-ageing creams. It is also used widely for dry or sagging skin and treating scarring and discolouration. The oil properties are known to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and contains compounds such as linolenic acid that is great for maintaining the skins healthy and plump condition.

Other benefits…

  • Helps reduce skin blemishes and redness promoting a healthy colour of your skin
  • Reduces scarring and discolouration in your skin – often caused by certain skin conditions
  • Smoothes out rough skin making it look and feel more hydrated
  • Rejuvenates skin and when used at night, promotes healthy cell turnover
  • Gradually reduces fine lines and wrinkles
  • Improves elasticity of your skin
  • It’s high level of antioxidants helps protect the skin from ageing

and my favourite benefit…

It lightens the darkness around your eyes and minimises the tired look.

Finally something that actually works for your under eyes! Woohoo!

I’ve been adding the oil to my eye cream, and have genuinely seen results. My skin appears lighter, and my skin tone looks more even. I also like adding it to an overnight face mask; in the morning my skin feels soft, supple and looks clear.

It’s definitely one of those inexpensive, effective beauty hacks that I’m absolutely backing. After all, most skin creams have evening primrose oil in it anyway. Try it and let me know what you think! I’ll be making some evening primrose oil under eye strips soon, so stay tuned!

Hello Love, thanks for this article and trust me, I feel good about it. I do not want to take Evening Primrose orally and wondering if it could work effectively , if I can directly apply on my skin or burst the oil in my cream lotion. I’d be glad to read your reply soon. Thank you!
