Homemade Superfood Balls

I’m totally into raw superfood balls. Homemade balls.

I’ve been getting into the habit of making these healthy little snacks every week. I love them; they’re great for mid-morning and late afternoon bites as they keep you energised and full so you’re not snacking on the bad stuff all day. They are also tastier than you think! I tend to experiment with the recipes, trying new ingredients but these 3 are my favourite. With these healthy delights, you can snack smart and not feel guilty!

Some healthy benefits of superfood balls:

  • Protein is kryptonite to your fat stores
  • Protein provides you with a prolonged energy release
  • They are a nutritious snack that keeps you feeling full
  • Great for pre-gym/workout to keep energy levels up and for post-workout to repair and nourish the body in preparation for your next workout
  • Packed with nutrients
  • Balanced snack in between meals
  • Natural sources of protein

Below are the recipes, with really rough measurements because to be honest I don’t tend to measure a lot of the ingredients out (I just bung it all in a blender and add things if I need to!):

Post-Workout (8-10 balls)

  • 200g Almonds
  • 2-3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 150g cashews
  • 150g dates/raisins/cranberries (all three preferably)
  • 50g Raw Coconut chips or 3 tbsp desiccated coconut

Put all ingredients into a food processor and blend until mixture is ground and also moist enough to stick together and roll into balls. Add coconut oil if necessary. If mixture is too oily, add more almonds.

Pure Protein (8-10 balls)

  • 150g Oats
  • 150g Almonds
  • 2-3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 100g raisins
  • 100g peanut butter

Add more oats if mixture is too oily.

Raw Chocolate (8-10 balls)

  • 50g raw cacao powder
  • 150g almonds
  • 100g raisins/dates
  • 2-3 tbsp coconut oil
  • Desiccated coconut

Once you’ve blended the ingredients and rolled into balls, coat them in desiccated coconut flakes.

Pure essential protein from the almonds and cashews providing that energy boost as well being totally rich in antioxidants and vitamin E and a great source of finer keeping your digestive system healthy and cleansed. Cashews are rich in zinc and iron which is important for not only heart health, but immune health, allowing oxygen to get through the body. Zinc is important for regulating our hormones which is key for strength and performance, particularly during exercise. The fruit additions provide a range of vitamins that benefit our health as well as antioxidants, all of which protect our skin and nurture our immune system. Peanut butter is a great source of protein and helps muscles recover quickly after exercise as well as being heart friendly and being an energy booster. Raw cacao powder is packed with antioxidants and rich in vitamins. Unlike processed chocolate, raw cacao maintains all the nutrition and is a natural energy booster. If you have a chocolate craving, these will change your life!

Ok stop saying balls now. Enjoy making these and give them a try!
