Homemade: Coconut and Vitamin E oil eye rescue

My homemade post this week is a great little treat that is so easy to make and works absolute wonders.

I’ve talked a lot recently about the effects of this cold weather on our skin, and our eyes are no exception to this. It’s important to keep the delicate area hydrated without applying heavy creams adding pressure to the skin.

The skin around our eyes is very sensitive, it is around ten times thinner than the rest of the skin on our face, and this area undergoes many changes throughout the day that over time cause it to lose its elasticity as the collagen breaks down. Skin of the eye contour is constantly moving, with blinking and making facial expressions. On top of that, certain factors can cause eyes to look puffy, dark and tired. Rubbing of eyes, crying, and removing eye make-up also pulls on the delicate skin and long term constant tugging on this skin can cause it to lose elasticity.

Eye creams can be crazy expensive, and who knows what kinds of chemicals they have in them! This is a really simple homemade natural eye rescue that can be applied day and night and will keep your under eyes fresh, dark-circle-free, and moisturised.

You will need:

–  Coconut Virgin Oil
–  Vitamin E Oil
–  Small round container, contact lense case
–  Cotton Bud/small spatula

IMG_6663eI use the small round containers to store my eye rescue. They are perfect for homemade eye creams. This one is from Boots and comes as part of a Mini Travel Set. This pack also comes with a small spatula/scoop that I mentioned above.

  1.  Firstly scoop up enough coconut oil to mostly fill the container
  2.  Add 3-4 drops of Vitamin E oil
  3.  Mix together using a cotton bud
  4.  Using your ring finger, apply oil gently around the eye area; use a light dabbing motion. You only need a small amount for each eye
  5.  Leave container with oil to set in a cool place, and store in a cool dry place

This eye rescue should be quite a thick consistency because of the thickness of both oils. It may be quite greasy to wear out and about during the day (or just use a small amount), but it’s perfect for the night time.

The ingredients – the benefits

Coconut Oil

– Really hydrating and light on the skin
– Decreases signs of ageing by smoothing out fine line, reducing wrinkle formation
– Anti-ageing properties

Vitamin E Oil

– It doesn’t matter too much on the thickness of oil you use, and even the vitamin E oil from capsules works very well
– Highly moisturising properties
– Fighte premature ageing
– Protects skin from harmful anti-oxidants
– Packed with vitamins that are great for maintaining healthy skin. Check out my post ‘I rate this… Vitamin E oil’

Both ingredients together are perfect for getting rid of those bags, puffy eyes and dark circles, but ultimately get a good sleep and drink plenty of water aswell!

Enjoy your homemade eye rescue,

Love Nimisha
xoxo
